Traditionally, homes have been wired for two things only - power and telephone. Add to this a couple of haphazardly run cable TV outlets and some doorbells and you have the whole sum of wiring for most homes. All of the audio, video, voice and data outlets are "home run" back to a central location known as the Home Distributor Box.

With star wiring, each outlet (jack) has its own individual “home run” of cabling extending back to a Home Distributor Box. There are three major advantages to this:

 

1) Flexibility– all changes in distribution of services can be quickly and easily made at the  Home Distributor Box. Each outlet can be treated independently from all others. (the traditional cabling used in homes in loop, also known as “daisy chain,” wiring—that is, where a number of outlets are tied together in series— outlets cannot be treated independently.)

 

2) Isolation of problems– when an interruption takes place (nail through a wall and into a cable, etc.) only one outlet is affected; and

 

3) Quality of signal– each additional connection point is a potential source of interference and other problems which can cause a loss of signal quality.

 

 

 

Flexibility:

 A "Smart Wiring™" enables sharing of multiple connections of voice, data, entertainment and telephony at various locations and also interchangeable at ease. It enables future additions, conversion to home office and even home automation.

Smart Wiring™ gives the home owner a complete freedom to choose a service provider at will. It’s a technology agnostic wiring design; thereby adapting itself to multiple service providers.
